Top 10: Announcements I want to see from Apple in 2018

There is no doubt, that Apple has had a great 2017. They released the latest iPad Pro with the ProMotion 120Hz display, iPhone X and the iMac Pro along with software updates for all.

Apple has also had a few hiccups throughout the year including the announcement of the HomePod, supposedly released in December but delayed to probably as late as March 2018.

Lots of people also reported a lot of issues with iOS 11 not running well on older devices and recent controversy over Apple supposedly slowing down your older devices on purpose.

In this Top 10, I want to go over (in no particular order), what I personally want to see from Apple in 2018. This list may be different to yours since I am an app developer and is based on the devices I currently own, but I imagine a lot of people would have a few from my list.

Apple Sep ’17 – Let’s Meet At Our Place – Expectations

UPDATE: Based on a lot of recent leaks in the past few days, the post has been updated to reflect the changes. Rumours that the 7s/Plus will actually be called the 8/Plus due to the change in design with the glass back and the OLED iPhone will be likely either iPhone X or iPhone Edition, of which I still prefer the later.

Apple is holding their usual September yearly event next week on the 12th at 10am local time in Cupertino.

The event this year is held for the first time at Apple’s the new campus (the spaceship one) with the Steve Jobs Theatre being used for the first time.

This theatre named after the late-CEO has a capacity of 1000 seats, which is more than 3x the size of the 300 seat Town Hall at Apple’s original campus which has recently been used to announce the iPhone 5s, iPad Air 2 and even the most recent MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

The invite itself says the following:

Top 10 + 1: Expected OLED iPhone Features

Now that WWDC 2017 has been and gone I can confidently say that it was perhaps the best WWDC since 2014 at the very least.

Whilst watching the primary keynote back a few times I started to notice a lot of things that make it more obvious as to what was announced at the conference leads to the major changes coming with the OLED iPhone later this year.

In this post, I’m going to highlight in no particular order the 10 features I’m expecting to see in this OLED iPhone.

Expectations for Apple’s WWDC 2017

UPDATE #1 (31st May 2017): Added section regarding updated WWDC app.

Apple has announced yesterday that they will be doing a live stream of their opening keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) like they do every year, but this year it is held from June 5-9 at San Jose McEnery Convention Centre, which they haven’t held a WWDC conference at since 2002.

Now you may be asking, why San Jose instead of San Francisco?

Apple’s SVP of Marketing Phil Schiller said that the venue is about the same size as Moscone Center in San Francisco, but have no other reason as to why the change, but it is a lot closer to Apple’s campuses which will make it easier for the 1000 Apple engineers to get to and from the conference.

What got me thinking about this is that when they do a change in venues from their regular routine, their is likely a reason for doing so, more so than just convenience of to host more people, or ease of travel etc.

macOS 10.13 Wishlist

I have been a Mac user full-time on my MacBook Pro Retina for a few years now with my first solid taste of Mac software starting with OS X Mavericks, then Yosemite, then El Capitan and the most recent macOS Sierra.

There have not really been any rumours when it comes to updates to macOS, which does signal that people seem to care a lot about iOS and not so much the other three platforms. I do spend more time on my MacBook Pro than I do my phone, but because the Mac is such a matured platform, the changes that are needed to the platform seem to be more on the hardware side then on the software side. I continuously see comments online saying that people just want a better MacBook Pro, better Mac Pro, updated Mac Mini, updated iMac etc. and none of these complaints were about software.

Expectations: Apple 2017

In the 2nd post of this series of expectations for 2017, I am focusing on what I want to see from Apple next year.

Apple has had in my view somewhat a mixed 2016 when it comes to what they released, which includes an iPad Pro 9.7inch, iPhone SE, iPhone 7/Plus, AirPods (delayed), Apple Watch Series 1 & 2, new MacBook Pro and new software across the board.

Anyways getting back on track, I am now going to give you the top 10 things I want to see from Apple in 2017 beyond what we would usually expect, all in no particular order.

Apple has today announced that they will be holding a keynote on Thursday October 27th at 10am PT in Cupertino where they have some major announcements to make.
