Top 10: Reasons to NOT get iPhone SE

The iPhone SE was recently announced as the new 4.0inch iPhone are realistically the sequel to the iPhone 5s with the majority of the specs from the iPhone 6s.

I also made a separate post on the Top 10 Reasons to upgrade to the iPhone SE and in this post I am going to list the reasons I recommend you do not upgrade.

You can check out the original post by clicking here.

10. You always want a new design to easily show off to your friends:

Are you one of those people that always wants to get the latest iPhone when they are completely redesigned (hence iPhone 4/5/6)? Then this is not for you as it is designed similar to the iPhone 5s.

9. There is nothing new this iPhone can do, that other’s cannot:

The iPhone SE is purely a better iPhone 5s with a lot of the specs from the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s but it has nothing new in it.

In fact it has even less features than the iPhone 6s, because the iPhone 6s has the following that the iPhone SE does not have (to name a few):

  • 3D Touch Support.
  • Bigger screen that is sharper on the Plus models and better contrast ratios.
  • Touch ID 2nd generation.
  • FaceTime HD 5MP camera.
  • Reachability feature.
  • Larger screen.
  • More up to date design.

8. iPhone 7/Plus is only a few months away with A10 processor etc.:

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are rumoured to be announced in September 2016 which is normally when Apple announces all of their iPhone updates every year. The iPhone SE was an exception to this based off recent years.

With the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus we are hoping to see a lot of hardware additions to the phone as it doesn’t sound like it will get a redesign, including a smart connector, , possibly more storage, A10/M10 Processor, updated camera(s) with a dual lens camera on the 7 Plus, larger battery thanks to the removal of the headphone jack etc.

7. iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus have better battery life:

There is no denying it that the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus are known for having the best battery life on any iPhone to date.

If you are serious about battery life without relying on batter cases or power banks, the Plus models are the way to go.

6. FaceTime HD Camera only 1.2MP’s with 720p Video Recording:

People that do not want grainy photos should stay away from the iPhone SE.

The 1.2MP camera gets the job done but is nothing spectacular if you are serious about building a photo collection of selfies etc. and not just posting them on social media etc.

5. Touch ID Sensor only 1st generation like iPhone 5s and iPhone 6:

This was a major turn-off for me not wanting to get the iPhone SE, is that the Touch ID sensor is the exact same as it is on the iPhone 5s and 6 and 6 Plus.

The 2nd generation on the iPhone 6s/Plus is ridiculously fast and accurate that it created a new standard for fingerprint sensors on smartphones and tablets.

Expect this to be included on an iPhone SE 2 in a future update which may come either a year from now or updated when the iPhone 7s/Plus is released in September 2017.

4. No 3D Touch Support:

3D Touch is the flagship feature added to the iPhone 6s/Plus and it should remain exclusive to this model of iPhone (for current models launched) as there would be no reasons to get the iPhone 6s/Plus for features etc. besides the larger screen.

Expect this to be included on an iPhone SE 2 in a future update which may come either a year from now or updated when the iPhone 7s/Plus is released in September 2017.

3. You want more than 64GB of local storage:

The iPhone SE comes in 16GB and 64GB configurations and if you want more local storage (hence 128GB) to store photos, videos, apps, documents and offline music from Apple Music for example, you should stay well clear from the iPhone SE.

Sure you could get cloud storage, but cloud storage is not the same as local storage.

Also a serious note here if you are really wanting to get the iPhone SE.

2. You own an iPhone 6/Plus or iPhone 6s/Plus:

If you have an iPhone from 2014 or 2015, there is no reason to get the iPhone SE.

Compared to the iPhone 6, yes the SE has a better camera and updated processor and always on “Hey Siri”, but you would be better off saving up your money and investing it in the iPhone 7 later this year, especially if you are in the middle of a 2 year carrier contract, which I personally think no-one should end it early just to get the latest phone.

1. You want the larger screen:

It is obvious that if you want a larger screen, you want a larger screen.

The iPhone SE is mainly for people that do light usage on their phones and use it for phone calls, so they do not have to hold up a phablet to their ears.

There are so many advantages though to having a larger screen, including (but not limited too):

  • More apps on home screen.
  • Better for typing with a larger surface area.
  • Better for gaming so fingers do not take over the whole screen.
  • Better for taking photos with a larger view-finder.
  • Better for video playback with a larger and sharper screen.
  • Better for browsing social media as text is larger.
  • Better for browsing the internet in Safari or another web browser as you can see more text or make the text larger.
  • Plus model has a split screen mode in apps like Messages, Stocks, Email etc.
  • Better for showing content to other people near you.

And this leaves me to the question for the post:

“Will you get the iPhone SE? And what would you be changing from?”

In my case, if I were really wanting to stick with the 4.0inch screened phone then I would see this as a very compelling upgrade, but I honestly believe that when I upgrade I will go for a larger screen, but please leave a comment below, I’d love to hear what you have to say about this.

I have wrote a Top 10 Reasons to get the iPhone SE which you can see by clicking here.

I hope I have helped your buying decision (if you are looking into getting the iPhone SE) and be sure to give a like on this post if I did help you with your decision making process or if you enjoyed reading this or follow me if you want to see more posts like this in the future.
